Our Story

Great Lakes House Company was born out of frustration.

For years, I've watched builders in this industry get away with smoke and mirrors — polished sales pitches covering for sloppy workmanship, corners cut where no one would notice until it was too late. I watched beautiful homes get built around layouts that made no sense for how a family actually lives. I knew I could do better. So I did.

The Great Lakes House Company was founded by a third-generation builder. My father was a Scandinavian master carpenter, and I grew up on job sites beside him, learning the craft with my hands before I ever learned it in a classroom. That upbringing gave me something you can't fake: an instinct for quality construction and a respect for the trade that runs deeper than any sales pitch.

But craftsmanship is only half the equation. Over the years, I built a strong foundation in design as well — understanding not just how to build a space, but how to plan one that actually works for the people living in it. A well-built house with a poorly conceived layout is still a failure. At Great Lakes House Company, form and function are never separated.

I grew up in Lake County and have spent my career building and remodeling homes across the North Shore, so this isn't unfamiliar territory — it's home. That local knowledge, paired with real design and construction expertise, is what allows us to guide every project with honesty and precision from the first conversation to the final walk-through.
